During term 1 the academic year 2023-24, each 8th-grade class at The Olympia Schools created an original 10-15-minute-long play, inspired by their unit’s big questions: Who Am I? What is identity? How is identity formed? Why does identity matter? Is it possible to change one's identity? The plays explored different questions of identity, such as culture & history, stereotypes, childhood, and personality. The project aims to help students acquire English skills, collaborative skills, and artistic & technical abilities in a creative framework, specifically in the context of drama production. Each student took on a specific role (or more than one role), whether scriptwriter, actor, media technician, sound and visual effects and costume technician, or stage manager. They worked in groups and individually to build a script and bring that script to life on stage. Grade 8 showcased their hard work in the Olympia Theater on October 20, 2023.
